A Message From Bishop Martin Drennan
True joy comes from being close to God . A priest is called to find that joy and bring it to the people he serves. Prayer and a full life of service keeps that joy alive and enables it to deepen.
In Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora most priests minister in parishes. Others serve in education and in administration and as chaplains to hospitals, the Defence Forces and our two third-level institutions. In each of these tasks the priests of the diocese are
joyful ministers of hope. That hope is based on their experience of Christ, whose gospel message gives us the certainty of victory over death and over every form of evil.
A great leader is one who leads people with inspired conviction to where they have never been before. It is the privilege of a priest to lead a11 the people in his care, in good times and hard times, to a profound and enduring friendship with God.
When God wants to give us a greiat gift. He gives us an abiding longing for it. Maybe you feel that longing and feel drawn by Him to spend your life as a priest, serving God and His people in this diocese? If so, take courage, be joy-filled and step forward!
Bishop of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Apostolic Administrator of Kilfenora
Various Prayers for Vocations
Almighty and eternal God, in your unfailing love you provide ministers for your Church.
We pray for the priests you have called to serve the people of this diocese.
Inspire in them a generous response and grant them courage and vision to serve us your people.
May their lives and service call many to respond to the presence of your Spirit among us.
Ever faithful to the Gospel of Jesus may they may announce glad tidings to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives, set prisoners free and renew the face of the earth. Amen
Loving and generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You.
Help us to grow in love and service of one another and of You.
Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape our Church and its future.
Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ’s Mission of love and justice.
Raise up dedicated and generous leaders from among our families and friends
to serve You and Your people as priests and religious.
Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call. Amen.
Gracious and loving God, help the men and women of our parish to hear Your call to serve.
Our needs are great and our people thirst for your presence.
Open the hearts of many and raise up as faithful servants of the Gospel,
dedicated priests and religious who will spend themselves for your people and their needs.
Bless those who are serving you in ministry with renewed courage and perseverance.
Grant that many will be inspired by their example and faith.
We ask this through Christ our lord. Amen
Father, we are your people, the work of your hands.
So precious are we in your sight that you sent your Son, Jesus
to heal the broken-hearted,
to dry the tears of those who mourn,
to give hope to those who despair,
to rejoice in your steadfast love.
In response, we, the baptized, realize our call to serve; help us to know how.
Call forth from among us priests and religious.
To continue the work of Jesus and to minister to your people. Amen.
Prayer for Vocations of Pope John Paul II
Lord Jesus, as You once called the first disciples to make them fishers of men,
let your sweet invitation continue to resound: Come, follow Me!
Give young men and women the grace of responding quickly to Your voice.
Support your bishops, priests and consecrated people in their apostolic labour.
Grant perseverance to our seminarians and to all those who are carrying out
the ideal of a life totally consecrated to Your service.
Awaken in our community a missionary eagerness and send workers to your harvest.
Do not allow humanity to be lost for the lack of pastors, missionaries and people dedicated
to the Gospel. Mary, Mother of the Church, the model of every vocation,
help us to say “yes” to the lord Who calls us to cooperate in the divine plan of salvation. Amen.
